Sponge Cultivation
Cultivated in Pristine Waters
UNIZ LAB achieved artificial cultivation of freshwater sponge (Spongilla lacustris) in 2025 and holds that technology. Mass production has not yet begun; our raw material is currently cultivated and harvested in pristine waters where sponges grow naturally. We operate a 25-ton annual production system.
6-Step Cultivation & Harvest Process
A systematic process from selecting the water and the specimens through to shipment, ensuring consistent quality
Water & Specimen Selection
We select pristine waters where sponges grow naturally and choose superior specimens. Species are accurately identified through DNA analysis.
Cultivation in Natural Waters
Sponges are grown in the waters where they naturally live. Freshwater sponges are sensitive to water quality and grow only in clean water.
Growth Monitoring
Regular growth analysis and SPICULE density measurement confirm harvest timing.
Harvest
Harvesting takes place once a year in autumn. We confirm SPICULE density and quality and secure two years' worth of material.
23-Step Purification
Proprietary 23-step purification process extracts 99%+ high-purity SPICULE.
Quality Inspection and Shipment
After SEM analysis, particle size distribution, and purity testing, products are shipped according to GMP certification standards.
4 Key Strengths of UNIZ LAB Raw Material
Stable Raw Material Supply
Harvesting takes place once a year in autumn, but we keep two years' worth of material on hand at all times, so supply stays stable year-round regardless of season.
Quality Uniformity Guaranteed
Harvested sponges go through 23 steps of purification. That process is what brings SPICULE size and purity into line.
Eco-Friendly Production
Sponges are filter feeders — they draw in water and strain it for food. A sponge growing well and the water it grows in go together.
Ready to Scale
We already hold artificial cultivation technology. If demand grows, we can widen supply through mass production.
Protecting the Environment
Freshwater sponges are sensitive to water quality and grow only in clean water. UNIZ LAB cultivates in the pristine waters where sponges live naturally. Sponges are filter feeders, so a sponge growing well and the ecology of that water go together.
