Question 1

What is SPICULE?

Accepted Answer

SPICULE is a skeletal structure of sponges (Sponge) with a main component of silicon dioxide (SiO₂·nH₂O), forming a microscopic needle-like structure. With a diameter of tens of micrometers, when applied to skin, it creates physical microchannels that enhance active ingredient penetration (Kim TG 2022).

Question 2

Where does UNIZ LAB source its SPICULE?

Accepted Answer

UNIZ LAB successfully achieved artificial cultivation of freshwater sponges in 2025 and holds that technology. Mass production has not yet begun, however, and our raw materials are currently cultivated naturally in pristine waters. Freshwater sponges are sensitive to water quality and grow only in clean water. Harvesting takes place once a year in autumn, and we keep two years' worth of inventory on hand at all times, so supply stays stable year-round regardless of season. Harvested sponges undergo a 23-step purification process, and that process is what delivers uniformity in size and purity.

Question 3

How should I choose the right SPICULE size?

Accepted Answer

Generally, selection depends on skin sensitivity and purpose:
• 100~150 µm (Fine): sensitive skin, first-time spicule users
• 150~200 µm (Regular): normal skin, everyday home care
• 200~250 µm (Medium): focused care for acne and pigmentation
• 250~320 µm (Intensive): anti-aging, professional treatments
We recommend testing with a sample request to find the right size.

Question 4

Is the safety of SPICULE verified?

Accepted Answer

Yes. UNIZ LAB SPICULE completed human application testing at the P&K Dermatological Clinical Research Center. In an N=52 human patch test, it received a "non-irritant" rating. Cell toxicity testing based on OECD TG standards confirmed excellent safety with IC50 > 5,000µg/ml.

Question 5

How do I request a sample?

Accepted Answer

You can apply through the sample request page on our website or email uniz@uniz.co.kr. Samples for corporate and research purposes are provided free of charge, and we will send the CoA (Certificate of Analysis) and MSDS together. Samples will be shipped within 3-5 business days after request confirmation.

Question 6

What is the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?

Accepted Answer

MOQ varies by product line, but generally the Standard Line can be ordered from a minimum of 1kg. Customized products require separate consultation, which can be arranged through our B2B inquiry page.

Question 7

Is overseas shipping available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. UNIZ LAB has export experience overseas. We have established experience in major markets including China, Japan, the United States, and Europe, and provide documentation (REACH, MSDS, CoA, etc.) compliant with each country's regulations.

Question 8

Is OEM/ODM partnership available?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is available. In addition to SPICULE raw material supply, we provide OEM/ODM formulation development services. We can customize development for your desired functional ingredient combinations, formulation types (cream, serum, powder), and packaging. Please visit our B2B inquiry page for detailed consultation.

Question 9

How do I inquire about technology licensing?

Accepted Answer

We are open to licensing discussions for core proprietary technologies including enzyme purification processes and cultivation technology. Please email uniz@uniz.co.kr with your interested technology and usage plan, and we will review and contact you.

Question 10

How does joint research partnership work?

Accepted Answer

We welcome joint research with academic institutions, research institutes, and corporate research teams. Please email your research objectives, institutional information, and research plan. Upon MOU signature, joint research can commence.

Question 11

Is it normal to experience skin irritation after using SPICULE products?

Accepted Answer

Mild tingling or redness after SPICULE application is a normal response. This occurs as SPICULE forms microchannels in the skin and typically subsides naturally within 30 minutes to 2 hours. For sensitive skin, we recommend starting with a smaller size (100~150 µm) or reducing the amount used.

Question 12

Is sunscreen essential after SPICULE treatment?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is absolutely necessary. UV exposure on skin with formed microchannels after SPICULE treatment can worsen pigmentation. Always apply SPF 50+ PA+++ or higher sunscreen, and avoid strong direct sunlight for 2-3 days immediately after treatment.
